For years, artist Peter Westerveld, worked as a wildlife conservator in Africa, where he witnessed the rapid deforestation and desertification. During those years he also worked on a revolutionary plan to reverse this process and turn the desert into fertile land again. He came with such a simple solution that one tends to think 'why has nobody thought of this before'. Dig trenches and wait for rain. Or, as he calls it himself: contour trenching.
