springhillnursery.com - In this video, Scott from Spring Hill Nurseries shows how to go from grass to garden in just a few easy steps. Using a few simple tools, we demonstrate how to get rid of the sod and put in the blooms. To prep, youll need a good site, a flathead shovel, water, a tarp, and some fertilizer. First, we remove the sod. Next, remove a layer of about a spades depth worth of topsoil. Next, remove the layer of subsoil, another spades depth. Keep the soil separated on the tarp. Add garden compost to both piles. Now, fill the hole by putting the topsoil in first, giving the bed a perfect planting foundation. Finally, fill in the rest of the hole with the subsoil. Now youll have a perfect garden bed to give your perennials a great start.
