The Hope Community Garden, the first of six community gardens planned for Atlantic City residents in AtlantiCare's Growing Green-Atlantic City initiative, marked its next phase when a team of Rutgers Cooperative Extension (RCE) of Atlantic County master gardeners built 30 garden beds June 24. The AtlantiCare Healthy Garden Network, an AtlantiCare Foundation program, is funding this collaborative initiative among AtlantiCare, the Atlantic City Housing Authority and Urban Redevelopment Agency (ACHA) and the RCE of Atlantic County through its Master Gardener Program. The garden at 912 Mediterranean Avenue, Atlantic City at the Shore Park High Rise, will be on the site of a former outdated playground that was previously slated to be demolished. Kline Construction Co., Inc. of Galloway provided demolition services June 15 and 16. Soil was delivered June 22. The Dave Matthews Band announced June 27 that it plans to contribute $50000 to the AtlantiCare Foundation for its Growing Green-Atlantic City initiative.
